San Diego-Coronado Bridge Suicide Deterrent System
California Department of Transportation — District 11
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The San Diego-Coronado Bridge Suicide Deterrent System is a Caltrans District 11 progressive design-build project installing protective barriers on an existing landmark bridge while maintaining traffic operations.
A1MI leads quality for the project from initial program development through construction, verification, and final closeout — an innovative, cost-efficient quality program tailored to progressive design-build delivery, combined with hands-on field oversight and disciplined documentation that helps prevent deficiencies, resolve issues efficiently, and give Caltrans confidence that completed work is ready for acceptance.
SCOPE OF WORK
—Development and implementation of the project Quality Program
—Project-wide quality management throughout construction
—Quality inspection and construction verification
—Inspection and testing coordination
—Nonconformance identification, tracking, resolution, and closure
—Quality records and inspection reporting
—Corrective action and deficiency management
—Quality compliance and acceptance documentation
—Final inspections, punchlist, and closeout
—Coordination with Caltrans and project quality stakeholders
A1 Connect serves as the project EDMS – with custom submittal and RFI modules adapted for progressive design-build delivery, bringing the contractor, Engineer of Record, and owner together in one collaborative platform.
Developed the project's quality program. A1MI established the quality-management framework governing inspection, testing, documentation, nonconformance control, verification, and acceptance for the progressive design-build project.
Introduced an innovative, cost-efficient quality delivery model. A quality approach that provides Caltrans with rigorous and traceable oversight while creating a more efficient and cost-effective method for administering project quality.
Provides continuous quality leadership throughout construction. A1MI manages quality as an active part of project delivery – coordinating inspection, testing, field verification, issue resolution, and documentation as construction progresses on the existing bridge.
Drives issues from identification through verified closure. Nonconforming conditions and quality deficiencies are not simply recorded – A1MI manages the process through evaluation, corrective action, reinspection, documentation, and verified closure.
Carries quality through final acceptance and closeout. A1MI maintains continuity from construction through punchlist, final inspections, and record completion – so the project reaches Caltrans acceptance with complete and defensible quality documentation.
